Getting Involved

We have a large number of ongoing projects and a larger number of wonderful ideas. We are always in need of help. Some of the areas in which help would be greatly appreciated are:

  • Software bug fixes, documentation errors, corrections to our projects and website.
  • Improvements to our dictionary database file including the addition of parts of speech, etymology, et cetera.
  • The open source software library we use to render hieroglyphic texts does not contain the entire syllabary. We are in need of approximately 300 additional signs. If you have a graphic design background please click here for more information.
  • Software development. In order to realize some of our plans we could use the help of additional software developers.
  • We have numerous staff positions which must be filled to manage this mess. Please consult our Staff page for more information.

And there are other ways in which you can help. Please consider joining our mailing list for more information on how to get involved.

Mailing List

We have a Yahoo! Groups mailing list available for all GOSP related discussion. All project members are encouraged to subscribe. If you are having trouble with one of the GOSP projects, this would be a good place to ask for help. Note that our message archive is open to the public. Please search it before posting any questions regarding the use of GOSP tools.

Sourceforge Project

We deeply appreciate Sourceforge's services. They have helped to make this project a reality. Our Sourforge project can be found at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/gosp.

Hosting Your Project with GOSP

If you are developing an open source, or public domain application, software library, research aid, or other resource related to computer aided Egyptology we would welcome you to our group and offer our services. Through our Sourceforge account you would be welcome to post your code in our subversion repository, track tasks and support requests, host your website, and distribute your releases through Sourceforge's international mirrors. If you're not interested in developing your own custom website you are welcome to pages within our content management system.

While we are still developing our policies regarding subprojects, I can assure you they will be minimally invasive. You will be completely in control of your project and will remain the owner of it.

The majority restrictions come from Sourceforge itself which requires all hosted projects to be open source and has some additional terms of use; such as including a link in the logo on each project page, offering all file downloads through its release system (as opposed to posting them on your project site), etc.

So we welcome you to our community. If we can be of any assistance in hosting your project we would be glad to help! Contact our director through the mailing list for more information.
