Projects

The GlyphStudy Open Source Projects group is working on numerous Egyptology related projects. This page lists the active projects and propose projects that may be picked up in the near future. If you're interested in assisting in any of these projects please don't hesitate to join our mailing list for further information.

Egyptian Dictionaries

Our flagship project is dedicated to the development of a comprehensive open source Egyptian dictionary. We are making the dictionary available in a variety of formats and layouts. Go to the Egyptian Dictionaries project page.

Dictionary Generator

To create our dictionaries we have built and continue to enhance a suite of applications and software libraries that generate Egyptian language resources in an automated fashion using an entry list and a simple template (XSL-T and XSL-FO/XHTML, etc). Go to the Dictionary Generator project page.

Gardiner Sign List

To complement our Middle Egyptian dictionary we are planning on developing a high-quality sign list document. While there are many signs lists available on the Internet few of them capture high quality information about the use, etymology, phonology, and properties of individual signs. Go to the Gardiner Sign List project page.

JSesh Collaboration

JSesh's syllabary (available signs) is quite extensive but not yet complete. The project relies on the donation of time and effort to enhance its sign list. Several of our project contributors are actively working on adding several hundred additional signs to JSesh; signs that we need in order to publish our entire dictionary. Go to the JSesh Collaboration project page.

Eglyptionary Collaboration

There are a number of opportunities for collaboration between GOSP and the Eglyptionary. The most immediate idea is to use the Eglyptionary's data as another possible source for our dictionary generator. The Eglyptionary stores its data in plain text files. Work is underway to develop a tool to convert these files into a standard format (possibly an XML format) so that it can be easily used in other projects such as ours.
